Assessments and courses are offered by The Erasmus University Language & Training Centre (LTC) throughout the year. You can always participate in a Language assessment at the EUR LTC on their regularly scheduled dates at your own cost. You can check for the next possible date on their website. Please note that the ITP TOEFL test offered by the EUR LTC is not accepted as it does not test the speaking abilities of the candidate.
RSM together with the LTC also offers an English assessment free of charge:
Who is this test for: This assessment is mainly aimed at students from Dutch educational institutions (HBO/WO) who are facing financial need and are not able to pay for a regularly scheduled test.
Assessment dates and times: The assessment will only be offered on two specific moments of the year:
- The first assessment will be given on week 47 (18 November – 22 November): new signups for this test moment have closed due to high demand.
- The second assessment will be given on week 15 (1 - 11 April)
Registering for the assessment: You can register for the assessment when applying to RSM and filling in the Online Application Form (OLAF). You must submit your application for the programme of your choice at least three weeks before the date of the assessment you want to participate in.
- Deadline to register for 1st Assessment via OLAF: 8 November: new signups for this test moment have closed due to high demand.
- Deadline to register for 2nd Assessment via OLAF: 28 March
The RSM Admissions Office will then evaluate your application, and if you meet the other minimum requirements, we will register you for the test with the EUR LTC.
Prepare for the assessment: We advise you to sufficiently prepare for the assessment in advance. In the past years only 30% of assessment takers achieved the required C1.1 level.
Taking the assessment: On both dates the writing part of the assessment takes place in the morning on campus. The oral part takes place in the afternoon or on another day in the week. The oral part is online.
Results of the assessment: After the assessment you will receive an overview of your results, but you will not receive an official language certificate. RSM will only accept your results if the minimum obtained overall level as well as individual components meet the C1.1 requirement.
The assessment results are only valid for your application for RSM. The results of the 1st test will be available by mid January. The results of the 2nd test will be available in the beginning of May. If you fail to achieve a C1 level result, you can retake the assessment at your own cost.
What if the programme I’m applying for is full before I receive my assessment results?
As this test is aimed at students who do not have the financial means to pay for a test on their own, RSM Admissions Office will accept the results of this assessment even if the programme has already reached maximum capacity. This only applies for the test administered in November. If you are applying for the MSc in Finance & Investments, MSc Strategic Management or MScBA Business Analytics & Management, make sure to submit your application before the programme closes via the Online Application Form (OLAF) and choose the assessment given on week 47.
Personal circumstances: Students with dyslexia or other personal circumstances can request for additional time to take the assessment. It’s required to notify the LTC by e-mail before the assessment date about any personal circumstances. In the email you should include your dyslexia statement or any other relevant statements.
Costs & cancellation: You can only take the assessment once free of charge. It is not possible to re-schedule the assessment due to illness or any other reason. If you cancel the assessment after the final list of assessment takers has been sent to the Language & Training Center, you will be charged the costs of the assessment!
